DRY NEEDLING

A thin needle, precisely placed, can release muscle tension that nothing else can touch. Often provides immediate relief for stubborn trigger points.

HOW IT WORKS

Dry needling uses thin filament needles (similar to acupuncture needles) inserted directly into trigger points—those tight, painful knots in muscles.

When the needle hits the trigger point, it causes a "twitch response"—a brief muscle contraction followed by relaxation. This releases the taut band and often provides immediate pain relief.

Unlike acupuncture (which is based on traditional Chinese medicine), dry needling is based on modern understanding of anatomy and neurophysiology.

Why "Dry" Needling?

It's called "dry" because there's no medication injected. The needle itself is the treatment—the mechanical stimulation is what creates the effect.

The Twitch Response

Research shows that eliciting a local twitch response is key to treatment success. It indicates you've hit the trigger point and initiated the release.

WHY TRY DRY NEEDLING

Fast Results

Many patients experience significant improvement within 1-2 sessions. When it works, it works quickly.

Reaches Deep Muscles

Some muscles are too deep to effectively treat with manual pressure. The needle can reach them directly.

Breaks the Cycle

Chronic trigger points can get stuck in a pain-tension cycle. Needling can break that cycle when other treatments haven't.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Does it hurt?

The needle insertion is usually not painful. When the needle hits the trigger point and causes a twitch, you'll feel a brief cramping sensation. Most people find it very tolerable and worth it for the relief.

Is it the same as acupuncture?

No. While similar needles are used, the theory and application are completely different. Dry needling is based on modern neuroscience and targets specific anatomical structures. Acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine and meridian theory.

What should I expect after?

You may have some soreness in the treated area for 24-48 hours, similar to post-workout soreness. Stay hydrated and keep moving. Most people feel improved range of motion and reduced pain within a day or two.

How many sessions will I need?

It varies. Some conditions respond in 1-2 sessions. Chronic issues may need more. We typically know within 2-3 sessions whether dry needling is going to be effective for your specific problem.

Do you accept insurance?

We accept Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO for rehab services. For self-pay patients, we offer transparent pricing with no surprises.
